Gaps in the market

www.officialcharts.com

Gender:
Only 2 out of the top 20 singles were by a solely female artists, with 4 being from a mixed gender artists and the remaining 15 being from solely male artists. This is a clear indication that there is a massive gap for female artists.

Solo Artists vs Groups:
13 of the top 20 are by solo artists with the remainign 7 being either groups, features or a mixture of the two. This suggests that solo artists are the dominating demographic. However, they are not really dominating the market by that much, meaning both a solo artist or a group could break into the charts without facing added difficulty due to saturation.

Ethnicity
Only 5 of the top 20 singles are made by black artists, with 1 being made by a multiracial group and the remaining 14 from white artists. This is a fairly strong indication that black and any other ethnic minority artists are definitely under supplied.

Style
Every single one of the top 20 singles are made by people who fit within the mainstream stereotypes of their given genre. There seems to be a lack of more abstract and underground artists within the top 20 which of course is to be expected as being abstract and underground is not as commercially viable as being mainstream.

Yuna
In conclusion, it is fair to say that the ideal artist to fill the gap in the market, would be a non-white, abstract female artist, whether solo artist or a group.

A few artists who fit these criteria are FKA Twigs, SZA and Yuna
